Enhanced SRC Health & Dental Plan
The Students' Representative Council (SRC) is pleased to offer you a campus-wide Health & Dental Plan, to help Bishop’s University students pay for the health services they need, the SRC has partnered with Studentcare in order to provide students with extended health and dental coverage. The Plan is designed specifically for students to cover many services not covered by Quebec Medicare and other basic health-care programs.
WHO IS COVERED?
All Fall and Winter semester students who are members of the SRC and who are paying tuition fees at either the Canadian or Quebec rates are automatically covered by the SRC Enhanced Health & Dental Plan. International students are automatically covered by the Enhanced Dental Plan only.
WHat is the enhanced plan?
The SRC has introduced a flexible benefit model to the SRC Health & Dental Plan, offering students a choice between two different levels of coverage at different costs—an alternative to the traditional one-size-fits-all Plan.
All eligible students are automatically enrolled in the Enhanced Plan, with the option to revert to the Basic Plan, mix and match portions of the Enhanced and Basic Plans, or opt out during the Change-of-Coverage Period each year. Visit www.studentcare.ca for Basic Plan details and to customize your coverage.
WHAT IS COVERED?
The Enhanced Plan covers health, dental, vision, and travel benefits:
- prescription drugs (up to 100% for Quebec residents if they combine their student coverage with the coverage offered by RAMQ or another private plan)
- over $4,600 for health practitioners (psychologists, physiotherapists, chiropractors, etc.)
- over $450 in vision care (eye exams, eyeglasses and contact lenses, laser eye surgery, accident coverage for eyeglasses)
- up to $1,000 in dental care (checkups, cleanings, fillings, extractions, endodontics, periodontics, etc.)
- travel health coverage (120 days per trip and up to $5,000,000 per incident)
- $5,000 for trip interruption and $1,500 for trip cancellation in the event of a medical emergency
- ambulances, dental accidents, medical equipment, and more! Visit www.studentcare.ca for complete details.
How can i save More?
You can further enhance your benefits by visiting health professionals who are members of the Dental, Vision, Chiropractic, and Psychology Networks. You are covered for the insured portion regardless of the health professional you choose. By consulting a Network member, you will get additional coverage. For example, by visiting a Dental Network member, you will receive an additional 20% to 30% off dental services, enabling you to get up to 100% coverage.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
The total cost of the Enhanced Plan is $264.48 for students starting in September ($137.96 for health coverage and $126.52 for dental coverage). The policy year is from Sept. 1, 2016 – Aug. 31, 2017. The cost of the Plan is automatically included in your tuition and other fees.
WILL I BE ABLE TO OPT OUT?
If you are covered by another extended health and/or dental plan (e.g. a parent’s or spouse’s employee plan), you can combine both plans to maximize your overall coverage and reduce or eliminate out-of-pocket costs.
Alternatively, you can choose a different level of coverage with the Basic Plan ($233.00), mix and match portions of the Enhanced and Basic Plans, or opt out of the health portion, the dental portion, or the Plan in its entirety. All coverage changes must be completed during the Change-of-Coverage Period from Aug. 30 – Sept. 28, 2016 for students starting in September, and from Jan. 11 – 31, 2017 for students starting in January. You will receive a credit to your student account for the amount of the Plan.
